reasons to be uncheerful I had a bit of a shock today. During the occupational medical for my new role, I had a lung performance test...... Jeeeze, it's no wondaer i only last 4 laps then struggle. A lung age of 66! My little old lungs have been through hell on 20 a day for 25 years. no more, thats it, quit quit quit. Thank god for DD in giving me a testing time and proving my health is sh*te. Bye bye fags , hello new season. |
think about all the extra racing you can do now!! |

I did think to myself that you got through a few Mike, but I suppose thats easy from someone who has never had one. Good luck with the quitting. Just think of it as setting fire to a £5+ note and nothing to show for it. All the best and see you at Brands. :) |
Well done Mike. Stick with it. I must admit you were the one that inspired me to carry a fag and lighter with me when raceing in case I crashed so I could spark up while waiting. But you must have had a carton under the seat. Like I said stick with it Mike. Craig |
i have been smoking 40 a day for god knows how long, am now on day 10 of my stop smoking plan, i am trying the "tabex" method and so far it seems to be working. And at £12 for a box of 100 tablets its a lot cheaper than going down the nicoret patches and gum route |
Well done on making the decision to quit. I'm sure you'll feel much, much healthier for it afterwards, even if it seems like going through hell when quitting. DD - not just racing ;) |
Well done Mike, kick that evil weed. Brings to mind Andy Shepard who (if I remember correctly?) was also struggling with his fitness training mid season, tests showed that he had a serious heart condition, but he carried on, won Class A, then retired from racing and had corrective surgery. |
My Mum smoked 20 a day for 60 years and was convinced it did her no harm. She just died of pancreatic cancer, THE MOST PAINFUL TYPE, which had spread to her Ilium, stomach, lungs and bones......it just creeps up on you...get off those fags ! |
Anyone who smokes should go spend some time on a cancer ward. Having lost my 15 year old nephew to cancer, it's not an experience I would wish on anyone. |
My best buddy died of lung cancer aged 50. But - he lived more life in his short time than many do in a 'normal' lifetime. Jeez - aren't we a cheery bunch today   |
