Speeding Just received my second notification of prosecution for speeding in a month , so am expecting 6 points coming my way sometime soon. I passed my bike test 7 years ago but only passed my car test last year. The new rule is if you have had your full license less than 2 years and receive 6 or more points, your license is revoked until you re-sit your test. Anyone know how this applies to bike v. car licenses? BTW one of the speeding offence was on bike, other car, and I had a clean license till now (curses!). TIA:mad: |
dont want t be a doom monger but it would nt surprise me if you have to do both again :(. hope i'm wrong though. |
Logic...? OK - no expert here, but just applying a little logic to the question... You have only one driving licence, and the vehicles you are entitled to drive/ride on this licence are dictated by the tests you have taken and subsequent classes that are authorised on this licence. It should (and that is a SHOULD, not WILL) mean that you have held your licence for 7 years with category A on it and have just added category B within the last year. I would therefore deduce (are you still paying attention Dr Watson?!) that you will receive 6 points on a 7 year old licence and not face a ban and retest. If you had held a car licence for 7 years and added a bike class last year you would not be expecting to have the whole licence revoked for 6 points, so it shouldn't happen the other way around. The driving licence is not a car licence that you add other things to, it's a permit to drive whatever classes you have on the licence, car or no car. If I'm not right and the authorities are not fair and reasonable it really is time to emigrate! Giles |
Looks like an answer is needed from one of our members "in the job"-Rushjob-you out there mate? John |
No you're safe.....well as safe as anyone with 6 points can feel. Clippy is about bang on.....The Road Traffic ( New Drivers ) Act 1995 is the legislation you refer to and this only applies in the two year period after you pass your first driving test. Breathe a little easier. Yours, patronising all & talking out of you know where.... Andy ;) |
Phew....thanks! Now learnt my lesson, won't do it again etc, etc, etc... |
