Whats going on with the Frame Number

I've scraped back the powdercoating on the ss headstock to expose the frame # for this years scrutineering, the # is 3letters+5numbers+2letters, so pulled out the v5 that came with this frame and its only 4 numbers!

Looks bad, or is the v5# somewhere else on the frame?

The headstock number I uncovered starts with DGM, an old old post by nelly says that this its not the frame number, that will start with ZDM. There will be another number alongside this one so more scraping tomorrow, fingers crossed for 4 matching numbers.

There is a full guide to Frame numbers (VIN) by our very own Shazaam, here:

"BINGO", all my numbers have come up, phew.
The frame number is dotted directly above the other number. Thanks for the link Frank, but that breakdown is for US exported bikes, rather than use code letters they've kept it simples for the europeans, ZDM600S*******,where the last 6 stars are the frame number that on the V5.
Will spray some laquer over the numbers and now that I've exposed them I'll bet that no-one is interested.

Glad it all worked out.

As you say, after all that work no-one will bother to look now!

Just been looking over my monster and cant find any numbers. It has been powder coated so expect some numbers deep down underneath somewhere!

1. Do I need to remove all the paint for scruitineering? (Think thats going to be a yes)

2. Exactly where the hell is the frame number. Am I looking Righ hand side (brake pedal side) of the steering headstock?

Anyone want to show me theirs (frame numbers) on 18th at Oulton, otherwise I might have removed all the paint from the frame by the first race.

Cheers
Mark

Mark Initially I scrapped at the 3 o'clock position, looking down the headstock, which is where the number is on my 620, but that uncovered what is probably a frame model number. The frame number is more at the 2.30 o'clock position.

Just measured it, start scrapping 4cm down from top of headstock, between 2 and 2.5cm from the subframe mount. Mines a 1996 ss frame # in the 3000's, can't vouch for later models.
