Bennetts Cancellation Fee I'm not a happy bunny. My insurance was set to run until mid September but as I can now be included on my boss's traders policy I've cancelled it. Although I paid the policy in full from the outset, I've just had a letter telling me I owe them £16.32. Can't be right I thought. So I've just phoned them to question it. Apparently I'm owed about £8 back in refund but they charge £25 cancellation fee. Wish I'd known. I'd have left the policy to continue, it wasn't costing me anything, but they won't re-instate it now. I've had a look through the paperwork I've got left (I returned my certificate of insurance naturally) and I can't find anything about a cancellation fee. Anyone else been there, done that? :flame: |

Sounds about right! Just one word of caution...ensure that you are covered for social domestic & pleasure on your boss's policy - some trade policies only cover other non relatives for business use only. |

I'll check that out tomorrow. Thanx. Deej. |

...and you'll have lost the extra year of no claims bonus for the sake of a couple of months too! |

Mind you...Bennetts don't seem to let you go very easily once they've got you. I was with Bennetts for a couple of years, but changed this year because Ducati insurance were £115 cheaper for the same type of deal. Paid for it outright. Bennetts sent me an "if you don't respond to this letter your policy will renew automatically" message, so I phoned them up and cancelled it. I got a Direct Debit mandate letter a week later from some finance company that Bennetts had already taken a cash advance from, in my name, to pay for my unwanted policy, which meant that I had to phone the credit agency, tell them that I didn't want their credit, confirm that in writing to them etc... Phoned Bennetts up again and they were giving me grief about not cancelling. I pointed out that I had phoned them to say I would not renew my policy a week earlier...so they reluctantly cancelled, not without giving me an ear bending (and a subsequent letter) telling me 'you realise it's an offence to keep a vehicle on the road without valid insurance' blah blah blah... I KNOW, THAT'S WHY I'M WITH DUCATI INSURANCE.... |

Crikey Jools, that sounds like one hell of a sales team !!!. They surely can't have a leg to stand on automatically renewing your insurance ??. I've gone with Motorcycle Direct this year for my multi bike policy as they gave me a far better deal than I could find anywhere else with all the "extras" included in the up front charge. |

I agree with Paul - that sounds really dodgy. How can the credit agency chase you when you've not actually signed anything? I'm glad I stick with my broker (Rampdale). I don't pay more than anywhere else and they do all the hunting around for me. I'm sure I could save a tenner or maybe twenty quid if I shopped around, but for such a small amount it's really not worth the hassle. |

Bennets did the same thing with me. They automatically renewed my policy. I rang up on the day to see if they could better my new quote and she said "oh its already been renewed" So i cancelled it with no problem. They sent me the same letter Jools had and a prepaid envelope to return the certificate to them. Trouble is that was a week ago and the certifiacte hasnt turned up yet! Also had the letter from Amber Credit which i have just filled in and returned to say i want to cancel. |
