99x/7xx Rocker Arm Failure I have heard from 2 sources within the bike trade that rocker arm failure is occuring from 6,000 to 12,000 miles on sum 99x/7xx bikes, Ducati has changed the inspection from 6,000 to 12,000 miles! on this part which takes it out of the 2 year warranty period for most people, has any one other information this? |
It does not take it out of warranty period as the service intervals are 6000miles or 12 months and valve clearances and parts inspected should be carried out in that period whether you have done the mileage or not. And then if there is a problem it is spotted early |
By "rocker arm failure" do you mean the actual arm or maybe refering to the chrome plating issue with opening & closing rockers. Do a search for 'chrome' on the site and you'll find many people have suffered but it's mainly the older pre-1999 bikes that suffer but even later models have suffered. Parts normally exchanged for free and pay labour costs if bike out of warranty for this problem. |
Ensure the 12000 service is carried out before the 2 year period and insist the cams are pulled out as this is the only way to ensure the rockers are sound. Standard Ducati policy of Just checking the clearances isn't adequate. |
All bikes from all years appear to suffer this problem apart from the 999, 749 engines. Ducati will only help when the bike is out of warranty if the bike has been dealer serviced at the correct intervals. I dont think checking the rockers is an actual service item either. You have to specifically request the work to be done. The cams have to come out to do it. There are several alleged Ducati specialists that are still refusing to admit that there is a problem. Chris Clarkes was one of them. |

My 2000 model has had 8 replaced! I wish I had of known about the factory still replacing them out of warranty because it cost me a lot of money! I wasn't at a dealer though, it was an independant. |
tp - I did say that even later models have suffered - no need to quote me again. |
ive got some testastretta rockers in my bits, and the quality is appalling..Chrome? more like tin foil....:o:o Nat |
