Strange rattling sounds.

Help!!
When I have been taking the bike out the last few times, I have noticed a strange metallic rattle from somewhere on bike, bit like a loose bolt, with it's washer vibrating.
It starts around 2000rpm fades out soon after , then re-appears at 4000rpm, only to fade out just over that point.
I have been right through bike, checked anything and everything that moves, and it is still there.
Stopped off at W M Snell's in alton, mechcanic went for a blast, he also herd it , but could not pin point what was the source.
He did'nt think it was a shim issue, since you dont get it when stationary, and rev up.
Did an oil & filter change soon after, found a few very small bits of metal on drain plug, and nothing else.
Bike seems to run fine, no lack of performance, or is there something more sinister going on in side engine.
any input greatly appreciated.

hello sir,

I think this may be thatsa damn washer on the alternator, Weeksy knows about since his did it last year.

Theres a washer on the geny taper thats prone to failing, if it does the rotor gets loose.

Ask Weeksy anyway. Its worth checking.

I know what you mean m8 the type that has you looking down at the wheels all the time, shaking the bike from side to side jumping up and down and generally driving you mad. Been there!

Hope you find it, and it ain't too expensive. But, at least you've noticed it and the bike is still going strong. Fingers crossed.

I think it would be prudent to pull the end cover off and check the washer is ok. If the rotor is loose it will bugger up the taper and knacker the crank like the man says.

I hear there is a factory mod to cure the problem, I dont know if thats what you had done to yours Weeksy?

Quick update guys, nope not the rotor nut problem.
Had cover off this evening, checked everything out, all fine, all torqued up nicely.
So looks like back to the drawing board, any more thoughts, I am right out of ideas.
cheer all
robin.
