749R clutch makes funny noises Does anyone with a 749R find that the slipper clutch makes a sort of screeching sound if you slip it when pulling away, say on a hill or even if you try to pull away quickly. |
Yeah, but I just thought it was normal |
mine did that however after a few miles it has go away ! Or may be im riding it different ! |
I had this on my 748. I then pulled the plates out and refitted them, and the sound has now gone! Don't know what I did as the plates went back in exactly as they came out - I marked every single one - so while I know this doesn't help it may be worth spending half an hour doing the same? Just worth a try as it doesn't take long and is very easy to do... |
I asked at JHP and they said that most bikes with a slipper do make this noise although it can be stopped by fitting a spring plate. |
mine does it with a 14t front and a 15t front, its been stripped and rebuilt by experts on a number of occasions too, don't worry about it, it gives the car drivers something else to listen to/look at ;) |
I just picked up my 05. It made the same noise. While it was happening, it stalled my bike like 4-5 times if I dont' give enough twist. I guess it made my bike's break-in didn't turn out too well.... |

Fast getaway on most Dukes gives you a graunching noise/feel. My 900SS did it 10 years ago , my 996 did it and my 749R does it..............on second thoughts......perhaps its me ? |
