Bargain or not ? well just bought my boss's 1 owner june 95 900 supersport with a genuine 2200 miles on it. It had the stud recall and belts 2.5 years ago (65 miles ago) and hasnt moved since. tyres look a little blue and old, chain also looks a bit rough and a strange bit of rust has appeared above the clutch slave, but apart from that is unmarked and 100% mint and original. Not too sure if i plan on keeping it (hardly going to compete for my affections with a 916 parked next to it) but it was cheap enough at £2000 i reckon, and with a bit of TLC, i reckon it would be a collectors dream if anyone dreams over the 900 supersport. anyway did he see me coming or have i landed a bargain ? what are the odds on it ending up on ebay in a couple of weeks ?:( |
first thing, - I would not ride it until the belts have been changed; 2 1/2 years is over the "advised opinion" service interval for them, and it is considered that if you leave them in one place without turning over the engine for a period of time you might as well replace them. If they are original tyres, again don't ride it, likely them have really gone off, - gone solid. Check the mark by the clutch slave is n't the seal gone, - they perish when used or left standing. Don't want to rain on your parade but it is about the right price, perhaps given the expense of tyres and belts it could have been bargained down lower. It is a lot of good bike for the money but they don't sell easily and the end of the summer. A friend has a really mint 94 Supersport which is rare-ish with a half fairing and black engine he owned it from new, was stored unused for first 6 years full service history for the last 4 years that he has used it, - dealers don't want to know as it is an "old" Ducati so second hand private prices can suffer. He decided the money he can get for it he might as well keep it alongside his collection. [Edited on 3-8-2004 by Ian] |
agreed, belts i can get done by my mate for the right price, tyres i knew and while may be ok for local trips, you wouldnt trust them at that vintage, same with the chain, it looks wet but i bet the o rings are shot. i know for a full service and all it needs would cost me around £350 tops. your right about the price ian, reckon there would be a few hundred in it at best, but it would be nice to find someone who wants one with few miles on it more than anything and someone who would appreciate it. may even just leave it, trailer it back, clean it up and sell it as is next year. |
bike collection coming along nicely i see !;) |
Mate, i think i have a problem. not only with compulsive buying but also house / garage space. i know i will just turn this supersport around straight away, well thats the plan anyway At least my taste is for jap import stuff which is usualy no more than 2 - 3 grand to buy a time, would be in big trouble if i was collecting stuff like RC30's or RC45's or even rare ducati's :( Now a RC30 . . . . . . . ..Hmmmmmmmmm |
RC30........go on ya know you want to.....:sing::P |
mate, if the bike collection is your thing, then good luck to ya`...enjoy life, thats my motto....i know people who go to work, come home, sit and watch the box all night, go to bed, get up, go to work, blah blah blah..... |
