Major problem with 748R Did my sixth track day for the summer today and everything was just great hunting down those gixxers and R1. After a while I imagined, or so I thought, that the valves were noisier than before, and then at the next session I was going down the straight at about 180-200 km/h when the engine did a "Oh I just broke down and am about to spit out parts"-sound. Then I quickly pulled the cluth and turned the engine off. Later I started the engine again and it sounded as if it only runs on one cylinder, so I quickly turned it off again. So, the cam belts are OK and there are no oil leakage. Btw, it's a 2002 748R with about 4500 km on the clock. Any ideas, things to check for? |
After checking the cam timing taking the rocker covers off to check the rockers are all in one piece would be my next step |
Dropped valve... It looks as if I've dropped an intake valve on the front cylinder :( Probably a broken collet... Only to see how much damage is done. /Uffe |
This is what happened to my bike last year, it dropped one of the valves out of the collet at high revs and the cylinder stopped running. The garage I took it to took ages to look at it, when they did they sent the cylinder head to have the valve re-pressed into place again. When it came back the valve dropped straight back in again, so they had to replace the whole cylinder head in the end. Luckily it was all done on warranty and I got a free major service cos it all took so long. If your bike isn't still in warranty I'd write to Ducati UK requesting them to cover it by warranty because they told me this shouldn't happen. Also, if you need a new cyclinder head it costs £1000 new I was told! Thats if your problem is the same as what I had anyway.... |
