plate for mot

will my "slightly illegal" number plate (its half normal size) fail my bike`s forth coming MOT ?
cheers:)

I took mine for an MOT with an illegal plate, they passed it but said they shouldn't have, it was only cos they knew me.

Depends entirely on where you go... Some places will let you get away with illegal cans & plate, others won't let anything illegal go through.

Hopefully some bikers local to yourself should be able to help!

If its a free retest place - then take it in as it is, if it fails for the plate then you'll know that you'll need to change it for the retest.

Often, rather than the MOT place have to deal with your bike again, they'll pass it and state that they shouldn't have!!!

Hang on, since when has the plate been part of the mot??

The tick-list says "registration plates and VIN numbers - N/A"

:puzzled:

rockhopper 13-Aug-2004 16:57

Plates are not part of the bike MOT as far as i know.

Harv748 13-Aug-2004 17:10

ditto...recent test I was told they are not part of the MOT

Guys,

Beg to differ. I had an MOT last week. As of early August (ish) the number plate has become part of the MOT inspection.

Here's the test details

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual/mc_contents.htm

The plate is a non test item and you cannot be failed for it being too small. It doesn't even need to be present.

If they fail you for it, ask to see the relevant section in the testers handbook (Which they are required to have). When they cannot show it, get them to re-write the paperwork as a pass.

Then report them

I can confirm that Plates are not part of the test!
I just had mine done and I asked the same question...
