French roads going on another little excusion to france next weekend, not been this year yet , just wondering how many members have done this and where they have found the best roads, please let me know which roads/ routes you reccomened. |
Just stay away from the main routes (N and autoroutes) as just about every French road is superb! Get yourself a Michelin map and pick some roads that look good! |
Depends on which part of France you're heading for, and how long. Get a Michelin map, avoid autoroutes except for the A75 down to Millau, its mad! As a bit of a generalisation main N roads can the ones with more police especially near big towns, D roads are more fun but slower, the yellow D roads are better than the white D roads. Any roads marked with a green border are more scenic and usually better for biking, and look for the obvious clues, squiggly roads on maps=more bends as do hills and mountains. N roads are like our A roads D roads are like our B roads. Sorry, don't mean to insult your intelligence if you know all this. really depends on where you're heading and how long you've got, and how many miles you wanna cover. Enjoy p.s. Have a look at "the alternative tour de france post" for a few clues. [Edited on 16-8-2004 by BDG] |

Oh yes...! Then the N9(?) that carries on into Millau and then up is superb too. Then when it finally turns back into the A75 again up on the plateau... You go through a tunnel and when you come out you experience a serious OMFG moment as the motorway drops away into a huge wide series of curves... Getting carried away just thinking about it. Gotta love that Autoroute. Roll on September when we're down there again. |
stil in the planing stage, not sur how many miles we wil cover? who cares as long as the tyres last out! looking for ideas from you guys as to what we might include maybe going for 3 or 5 days. so anything you recommend could be interesting if not for now im sure it would be worth beqaring in mind for the future, thanks |
