748R slipper clutch Hi fellas, I got a 2000 748R which is now on its second clutch. Is clutch wear a normal problem with these? This clutch has done around 4000 miles of road, track and race use and the plates leading edges now have those big hooks on, plus the basket is worn too. Any advice? Would an STM one be better? Thanks in advance :burn: |
Jen I have the standard 'slipper' that came with mine, I had the plates and basket changed and now have the carbon plates which are great, but seem to have worn in about 5k with little track riding. [Edited on 23-8-2004 by Lily] |
TBH, with race and track use, you've done well to get 4000 miles! Slipper clutches wear at a greater rate than regular clutches, even if you don't race them. |
Thing is, theres still miles of meat left in the actual plates friction material, it's the wear in the basket and on the plates teeth that annoys me, it means you have to fit the whole thing every time and not just a set of plates like any other bike! Thats why I wondered if the stm item is any better? |
If you mean the 48 tooth jobbie, I don't know if they last any longer. Maybe it will and Alan at AJR would know. Give him a ring. He's a good bloke. The downside with the 48 tooth clutch is that you have to use STM plates and basket as no others will fit. Your experience with wear is very typical, I am afraid. You learn to accept it with time... |
I always find it hard to accept expensive things.....................unless they are presents of course! |
The STM 48 tooth jobbie will be better for wear as the load from the plates will be spread over the surface of 48 teeth rather than the standard number. Obviously a bit more expensive to buy to start with, but if wear is your main concern then it may well be worth it in the long run??? |
The 48T STM plates will last longer. Sendo Ducati are seeing 3 or 4 meetings in BSB with them compared with 1 meeting on stock parts. They are on "promo" at the moment. £250 for the plates and basket. Works out about £50 more than buying the stock parts. Looks better to as the basket is anodised red :smug: drop me a mail if you'd like more info, or call Alan at AJ Racing. |
Nelly, do you know if they make one that fits the Corse bikes? I suppose they must if Sendo are using them. Is it really the same parts as the off-the-shelf STM parts? |
Definately interested in an stm, might be a bit quieter as well? How longs this offer on for? |
