Ebay Warning please read!!!!! Guys/Gals, Please be aware that there is a new EBAY scam happening as we speak. I received an email this morning from ebay@ebay.de nothing strange in that as i have recently bought bits from germany for the bike. On opening the email it had a link to follow, luckly i was suspicious and forwarded it to the spoof email devision of ebay. It turns out it as obviously dodgey and was an attempt to get my login and password. Which in turn is linked to my card etc through paypal. Be careful!!!! I am about to cut and paste the offending email in the box below to give you an idea of it's content. I will also put the reply in from ebay giving some good advice and links to prevent this kind of thing catching you out. Regards ScottyB |

Ebay's reply Hello, Thank you for contacting eBay's Trust and Safety Department about email solicitations that are falsely made to appear to have come from eBay. These emails, commonly referred to as "spoof" messages, are sent in an attempt to collect sensitive personal information from recipients who reply to the message or click on a link to a Web page requesting this information. The email you reported did not originate from, nor is it endorsed by, eBay. We are very concerned about this problem and are working diligently to address the situation. We are currently investigating the source of this email to take further action. You may rest assured that your account standing has not changed and that your listings have not been affected. We advise you to be very cautious of email messages that ask you to submit information such as your credit card number or your password. eBay will never ask you for sensitive personal information such as passwords, bank account or credit card numbers and Personal Identification Numbers (PINs), in an email itself. If you ever need to provide information to eBay please open a new Web browser, type www.ebay.co.uk, and click on the "site map" link located at the top the page to access the eBay page you need. If you entered personal information such as your password or credit card numbers into a Website based on a request from a spoofed email, you need to take immediate action to protect your identity. For information on spoof emails and what action you need to take if you have entered in your personal information, we strongly encourage you to read our spoof tutorial: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/education/spooftutorial/ If you have any doubt about whether an email message is from eBay, please forward it immediately to spoof@ebay.co.uk and do not respond to it or click on any of the links in the email message. Please do not change the subject line or forward the email as an attachment. Keep in mind the spoof@ebay.co.uk email address is reserved for handling reports of attempts to impersonate eBay. In order to investigate these reports in a timely manner, we can only accept forwarded messages at this address. Once again, thank you for alerting us to the spoof email you received. Your vigilance helps us ensure that eBay remains a safe and vibrant online marketplace. Please note that this email has been sent to you as part of an automated process. I forgot to mention above that the offending email came with all the bells and whistles on, ebay logo etc etc even the web trust logo which is scarey as someone has obviously spent a lot of effort getting it spot on. Although having read the email back the english in it is quite poor which should raise alarm bells!!! |
nice one scotty.....btw, whats the sitrep on the damage done to your bike ? |
Sadly, this exact same scam has happened in the past and still not been eradicated. Never, EVER give any website passwords to anyone. good call though - cheers - Frank |
Good morning Uncle P Sitrep on the bike is it is now fully repaired, back to how she was the day she was delivered. Strange though a few bits of carbon have "Found" there way on to her when she has been away!!!!! I have stuck the repair bill on my C/Card. £518.43 Public enemy No.1 is still refusing to pay. I go back to the rigs on Tuesday for 2 weeks, so i am going to give him until i return on the 14th Sept then it is in to Stirling Court to start small claims proceedings against him. |
Good luck with the court case (If it goes to that) I hope you are going to charge him for the interest on the card payments as well |
