Does this seem / look OK I have had the 748 parked up and the rear tyre is getting the sun in the evenings. Only now do I notice that I am getting blue streaks on the Rennsports (RS2) rear tyre. Does it need replacing. Also, on the inside of the bottom of the forks (see lightened area in the image) is slightly detached / coming away (?), and whilst there is no oil or seepage, I was wondering if this is a bad thing or quite normal? It only came to light when I removed the front mud guard as it's almost impossible to detect otherwise. Anyone else got this on further inspection? Thanks Tim [Edited on 1-9-2004 by aws] [Edited on 1-9-2004 by aws] [Edited on 1-9-2004 by aws] |
Forks seals probably on the way out. Either change them now, or wait until they leak. I'd change them, personally. Blue tyres means they've gone off after too many heat cycles. New set please. |
having fun with this posting! [Edited on 1-9-2004 by aws] |
As Twinfan says, the blue is the silicon working it's way out of the tyre after too many heat cycles which gives the blue tinge to the tyre, thus it needs replacing. They get very slippery at this point, so it's best to get them changed asap. |
That's the dust seal coming adrift on the fork leg. Push it back in place. If it moves again, it could be the seal pushing it out. The seal should be held in place by a circlip. If this has come out of its groove or broken then the seal could move with the leg. You don't need to take the leg off the bike to view it. It'll be awkward but doable. Slide the dust seal down the fork leg and check if the circlip is still in place. |
Sometimes the blue tinge is caused when the tyre has been wet and then dries. Oil that has got on the back tyre from chain lube, out of the tyre itself and picked up from the road can cause it. The seals you picture appear to have become unseated from the forks slightly, I have seen some in a lot worse condition and they still haven't leaked. It's your backside on the line with the tyre and seals and please bare in mind that I'm a tight wad from the North.??!! I have pushed some parts myself beyond what I felt comfortable with and believe me nothing slows you down more or takes away your concentration than riding aound thinking are those tyres/brakes/clutch etc really gonna do the job!! If you in doubt replace em. Ray |
