I think he'll be lucky to get a decent example at that price (typical Scotsman, eh?!
) as they seem to be increasing in value these days.
The carby models are getting quite rare now as well, and on ebay they're starting at £1995.
He might get lucky and find a crashed one for that kind of money from someone who doesn't have the time or budget to repair it, but the parts are now silly money too. Don't even think of trying to get an undented tank for under £500!!
But I wish him the best of luck as they're great bikes!
