When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? It may be this getting blocked, and it needs to sit for a while for the crap to "settle" and allow fuel to flow again.

Also, have you checked the tank breather? If it's blocked then you can get vacuum lock inside the tank which would stop fuel from flowing until the pressure can stabilise again and allow fuel to flow.

As for the engine running hot, that may be a different problem. Is the oil cooler working properly and do you have enough oil in the engine?
