The engine number will have the model in it:
ZDM XXX A9 111111
Where
ZDM = International reference for Ducati
XXX = Engine Size
A9 = Motorcycle/Engine Type
111111 = Serial Number
The XXX will (obviously!) be 996 for a 996.
