Yup,I would check the tank breather first.
The second thing to check are the sidestand and injection relays.They are cheap and nasty items that fail regulary.Cost about a fiver from your Ducati dealer.My wifes Monster had similar symptoms to your bike,...turned out to be the relays.We now keep a couple spare under the seat.
Oh yeah,as Edwyun said,why not just take it back to the dealer?They must have given you some sort of garantee/warranty?

I had exactly the same on my 750SS - relay problem - Intermittent at first, then failed altogether. I keep one under the seat as well!!
