The second thing to check are the sidestand and injection relays. They are cheap and nasty items that fail regulary.Cost about a fiver from your Ducati dealer. My wifes Monster had similar symptoms to your bike,...turned out to be the relays. We now keep a couple spare under the seat. Oh yeah,as Edwyun said, why not just take it back to the dealer? They must have given you some sort of garantee/warranty? | I had exactly the same on my 750SS - relay problem - Intermittent at first, then failed altogether. I keep one under the seat as well!! Dave |
Thanks for all the replies guys!
I'm kind of comforted that it's a 'known' issue and I'm not unique with it (or have bought a lemon), but also a bit miffed that I should be having any issues yet at all.
I'll take a look at the tank breather (although I haven't lifted the tank yet myself, it does need to be checked) for kinks, and I'll also check the innards of the tank for squirting/moving too.
The couple of relays kept under the seat sounds like a good idea, so if that's what it's going to take to keep things ticking over nicely, then that's what I'll do.
Edwyun, as far as I'm aware the bike is pretty stock. I'd been told by the previous owner that he'd had different pipes on it, but the originals were refitted before I bought it. The bike had less that 2,000 miles on it when I got it, and it's looking in pretty stunning nick still.
I didn't get it from a dealer, BTW, I got it in a private sale from a bloke I work with. I'm reasonably confident that he's not likely to try to pull the wool over my eyes with regards any major issues. I've mentioned this problem to him, and he's said he just thought it took ages to warm up, and assumed any occasional cut-outs he had were just that.
If it's something that's getting progressively more frequent, then it's still possible that he might not have been aware of it.
Hey, you've gotta trust some people sometime, huh?
Thanks for all the helpful advice. If I don't spot an obvious problem I'll track down my nearest Ducati dealer.
Cheers,
