Ducati only really design and build the engines and frames - everything else is bought in. Why redesign a perfectly good caliper every year (a la Honda/Kawasaki/Yamaha/Suzuki) when you just buy in the best Brembo have to offer in bulk at greatly reduced prices? No design overhead, no research, just buy them in and bolt them on. Same goes for most parts - chain, wheels, master cylinders, forks, shock, etc.

A very clever way of keeping costs down for such low volume production.
