Of course you get engine braking, just like any other clutch.
The slipper only engages at a certain amount of torque - because don't forget that it's correct name is a "backwards torque limiting device", the idea being to stop the back wheel turning over the engine, rather than the other (correct!) way round.
With some slipper clutches you can change this amount of torque, and also the way that it engages by different degrees on the ramp interfaces.
