815 '89' on Ebay.

You all need to take a look at the 851 for sale on eBay. I could not believe it when I saw it. It is a beautiful example, well designed – well worth the money.

Mmmmmmm........not sure.........but the underseat exhausts look quite good. Sounds like it has been done properly so shouldn't be hard to put back to standard. I imagine the conversion was done when the 916 was expensive to buy and the previous owner wanted a 916 but couldn't afford one.

Might go cheap.you never know.

domski 31-Jul-2006 14:21

Yuck!

Why do people do it? :barfy: :barfy: :barfy:

There's another thread on this somewhere else on the site.

I think it's truly horrible. The irony is that if it was in pukka 851 guise it would be worth much more (and also more than a 916 would fetch).

You only need to read this months PB to see how sought after reasonable 851/888's are becoming, 916's will probably have to wait another 5 years for their retro revival.

You do know I was being Sarcastic about it being Beautiful... I may have to bid for the poor thing... to save it.

Ahhhh....Got me! Sarcasm is sometimes difficult to detect in a post

It's mine

I've brought the bike, it needed me, it was upsetting me to much.

Now I'm going to cut it up and make a low rider (JOKING).

Rob B 07-Aug-2006 14:06

What did you have to pay for it out of interest?

Rgds, Rob

Finally found an 851 then mb

Could be a good buy if the price was right as he claims nothing was modded to fit the 916 style body work and all the 851 bodywork comes with the bike:)

mbracing748 07-Aug-2006 17:58

Yep finally a 851 back in my garage... would have liked to brought the SP2 for sale, BUT my misses is just about to drop (e.g 7days overdue) I throught better of it.

I paid £1800 which makes up for the styling. Why! Why! Why!

Good man...finally the bike is saved from a fate worse than bad taste.

Let me know how much you want for the lowrider when it's done :D

Screwy 07-Aug-2006 18:58

I,ll swap you my red 888 mirrors for your black 851 mirrors ;) :D

851 thingy

Well done mate!

You can see beneath that bodywork lies a perfectly good 851.

£1800! - Bargain!!

P.S. ebay the 916 bits - you'll get a fair amount of dosh back.

Cheers

Fred

Mods or not, that's a steal.

Good luck with it, MB. Where are you based? Fancy bringing it to Popham on the 20th Aug?

Rgds, Rob

mbracing748 10-Aug-2006 16:12

Everything is now off the bike regarding the 916 parts. Have to say the work carried out was of a very high standard - the person who did the mod must have a paid mint.

Only 2 problems so far

1) I have a DS sub frame but have single seat & parts. May have to do a few mod for the parts to fit. May try to find a Single seat sub frame (yea like that will happen)

2) I have a missing is the FuseBox Reply/Electrical plate and I believe that the rear light bolts too?

Oh and the biggest surprise was a original workshop manual & Owner's manual....

Cheers Rob for the offer but I'm based in Ruislip.

Single seat frames for 851s appear on ebay more often than you'd think. Keep your eyes peeled or register your search and get it mailed to you each day.

Rgds, Rob

philthy 10-Aug-2006 19:41

Just a thought, but if you are thinking of fitting a set of high level exhausts you might be better off trying to fit the single seat to the existing subframe.

On the 851 single seat subframe the exhaust hangars are very low down, so you have to cut them off and try to weld ( or bodge ) some brackets on to take a high level exhaust. The dual seat subframe already has brackets in place. It might be worth seeing if you can get the single seat to fit ( without resorting to cutting or drilling it of course ) before buying another subframe.

Best of luck!
