748 Chip and Battery info please Hi I am a new 748 owner (previously only having owned 2 strokes, RG5's RGV's etc) my bike is fitted with Carbon Termi's but I am wondering how I can find out what chip it is ruunning. The rubber bung has been removed at some point so I am assuming that it has an aftermarket one. Has anyone any information on what the markings mean? Also does the bike not run well when the battery is stuffed? I was out today, the battery is flat (had to bump it) and not holding charge and the bike started running badly. Thanks BJ |
The chip could have come from one of several sources. what are the markings? It sounds like you could have a charging problem. It's not uncommon for the alternator wires to fry themselves. Take a look behind the battery tray and look for 2 or 3 yellow wires. There'll be a connector/s of some sort where the connect to the regulator loom. Chances are these will have fried. Cut them back and fit new connectors. Wrap them in tape to keep them clean. |
Hi just backing up what nelly says, i'm a new 748 owner and the wires behind my battery were fried i also had to replace the rectifyer. (pattern part was cheaper!) |
nothing wrong with the wiring, the battery is stuffed it wont hold a charge for more than a day, a voltmeter accross the bike when running gives the best part of 14 volts, a new battery is on its way. The main thing I am asking is, that when the battery is flat and the bike is running of the genny through a stuffd battery can it make the bike run crap? I am thinking maybe it could effect the fuel pump/brain etc....... when I was riding the bike yesterday after having to bump start it it was running bad. Cheers BJ |
the info printed on my chip is: MS10 printed on a white sticker on the chip printed on the actual chip: 27c256-10 BLU782A708 Thailand The bike is running 45mm Termi's and no airfilters (only just discovered and I am about to fit some!) Any help would be really apprecited BJ |
Sounds like it is the battery that is giving you problems. If the regulator is stuffed, you will usually get weird tacho readings and the temp gauge goes doolally whilst riding. The MS eproms originate from Italy I believe. Couldn't tell you exactly which one you have though. if you want peace of mind, order one of JHP's via ducati Coventry. tell them exactly the setup of the bike and they'll burn one to order. The bike will still probably need/benefit from getting setup correctly though. If you're going to buy new filter, look at the Pipercross MPX038's. the fit exactly the same as the OE ones, seal a lot better, last longer and flow better. £20 or so a set ;) |
now, my tacho is giving strange readings zero at tickover and drops and rises at high revs...................now I am confused! Any idea how I test the REG/RECT, I have some electrical knowledge....................a little knowledge and all that! Sorry for all the questions guys [Edited on 24-10-2005 by barryj] |
Sounds like you need a new battery, I have the same trouble recently, is your bike alarmed?
