748R Rough Running at Low Revs - What Chip is This?
 

Although I've had the Supersonic Canary for over 4 months now, due to having crashed it at more or less the first bend I encountered after buying it, today is the first time I've actually ridden it on anything other than a motorway.

Low speed corners and small roundabouts are a bit of a nightmare because the throttle response it awful. It doesn't pick up instantly, and when it does pick-up, it coughs, splutters and generally makes life really awkward.

I know the 748Rs are known for this sort of thing, and that it can be fixed with an Ultimap chip, so I just thought I'd check that there wasn't one already installed (I had one fitted on my 996S, but I can't remember what it looked like) and also check that the chip is correct for the bike and exhaust set-up that I am running.

The bike is a 2002 748R running a 50mm Termi half-system.

Looks like the OE chip for the open pipes. Defo not FIM.

Just checked my chip that I took out of my 748R 2000 that had 50mm termi's on before I changed it for a FIM chip from Nelly at Cornerspeed.

I have an FIM Ultimap chip in mine, its great, get slght hunting at 4,000 rpm apart for that its pefect, would recomend one. Pro Twins in Godstone sell them.

Looks like "FIM chip" is going to be added to the ever expanding "To Do" list then....:)


Are they 'plug and play', or do they need to be set up by a professional? My ex-996S came with an FIM already installed, so I don't know anything about the fitting process.

Just plug in and play, i would say they are 95% ready to go, you can set them
up on a dyno if you want it spot on. Moto Rapido can do this for you. Its just an eprom, remove old one and fit new one, make sure its in the right way around,there is a cutout on one side, just change it like for like.

It looks like I may have the wrong brain installled (story of my life).

The same chip as mine is on eBay advertised as "748R chip for 45mm road cans"

The same seller also has a chip for "748R 50mm race cans", so subject to clarification that this is suitable for a 50mm half-system, as it's a lot cheaper than a FIM chip, I may give it a go.

If its cheap, go for it. I know the FIM chips are expensive, but i think the best.

p.s. i get 140 miles before the fuel light comes on.
