996 Bip brake upgrades

Just been out on my 2001 (or is it 2000?) Bip for the first time this year - jesus wept the brakes are dreadful.

I can't decide whether they've deteriorated over winter or i've just realised how bad they really are as the last bike I rode is my new ZX6 track bike with radial stoppers which are incredible.

What pads have ppl. upgraded to, or are the 4 pad Brembos a worthwhile upgrade!

The 4 pad brembos are much much better....

...might it be glazing of the brake pads if you haven't ridden her for a while?

Cheapest option is to start with a new set of good pads i.e. Bendix MF or MRR.
And if you hav`nt changed your fluid for a while try that.

Then as Tim says try and pick up a set of four pad callipers then after that go for some cast floating discs.

You`ll get on the Kwak and then think that needs an upgrade

996 brake upgrades

I've recently upgraded the brakes on my 916sps to 19mm radial master cylinder and new P4 calipers. This was a Ducati upgrade kit which also included two clip ons and new reservoir, etc. .....what a difference it has made. It's like learning to ride a new bike and last week, whilst on my 996, I could n't believe how dreadful the brakes seemed in comparision. I would wholeheartedly recommend the upgrade kit.

i have a set of 4 pad callipers sat spare on my shelf and keep think of sticking them on but to be honest its the back brake thats crap! its that bad i might just throw away the lever.

P4 calipers are an effective (& relativley cheap) option. The brakes on my 888 were appalling, and have just fitted brembo cast iron full floaters and a brembo radial master cylinder, and the difference is incredible..even with 'average' pads.

Everyone should have a brembo radial MC !- there just brilliant and look trick (see pic!)

I have the 96823402B
ducati performance SBK radial upgrade kits here..consisting of a 19x20 radial master cylinder, braided hose kit, and the pressure switch to operate the brake light. List is £456.12...if you want one ill do it for £250...U2U if interested

Cheers

Weeksy - get the proper ducati item - part number 96818500b...£28 which is specifically recommended for the brembo MC. There are some cheaper versions (around £20) but they are not as well made..and for the sake of £8 id always go genuine.
