748 Fitment size Due to a cock up on tyres I have been offered a set of K2 Racetechs as used by the Superstock Cup boys. the size is 120/70 front & 190/50 rear, the rear is said to be more like a 185 than a 190 & most of the 600 supersport boys are now using them, so they will easly fit the 5.50 rear rim of my 748. Question is, has any one on a 748 used this size of tyres? & how did they get on with them??? Chris. :burn: [Edited on 19-7-2005 by chris.p] |
no I use a 190/55 but then I have a six inch rim. give it a go and see how it feels |
Yep it was a 190/55, not a 190/50. Had no problems apart from the fact that I had to muscle the bike into a lot of the tighter corners, so not the best fitment for a 748, worst places being the Chicane, bottem of the mountain(the left to right change of direction) & Hall bends. Chris.:burn: |
190's designed to be used on 6" rims not the 5.5's of a 748 whoever recommended that tyre is an ******** cos the 748 doesn't need a bigger tyre with the power it puts out!! |
Dude keep with the standard fitment of a 120 70 17 front 180 55 17 rear or you will completely mess the handling up . a 190 on a 5.5 rim gives a smaller contact patch than a 180 plus it will make it slower to turn in. try the 190 if you like but it will make you loose confidence in your handling. |
i thought stanard front fitment on the 748 was 120/60 Butch |
it is but 120/70 is better |
120/60 is the standard fitment, but many people find that the 120/70 (including me) works better for them. |
a 190 on a 5.5 rim will give greater contact patch at maximum lean, thats why the supersport guys use them. It makes an egg shape because its squeezed on to a smaller rim, less stability in a straight line but a larger contact patch at full lean. useless on the road however as it helps the bike drop on its side quicker making it feel unstable at lesser angles of lean. |
