With all the references to the large crowd at CC (must confess it felt a bit weird to see that many peeps!), it got me thinking as to why there were more at that meet.
I guess that most of it is down to the fact that it is the only bike race meeting that they get there, so naturally the two wheeled Tifosi will be more prevalent (hey, that's a good word..what does it mean?)
However, what can we do to get more spectators at the other circuits?
If you ask me, I think that £12 to watch a club meet is a joke. If Jonathan Palmer (who I think is awesome) were to reduce the cost of entry to £5 per person for just one year, I think that they'd destroy the previous years takings, despite the reduction in cost. If you were bored on a Sunday, you'd definitely take the bike for a ride and shell out a fiver for a good days racing. £12 might make you ride up the bypass for a kebab and back instead!!!
Add to this the fact that you might introduce more sponsors to the sport, or even make it more attractive for sponsors to advertise to the larger crowds, and maybe there's an argument for making gate entry something of a loss leader?
Discuss...or don't.
Either way though, buy me a beer at Pembrey
