OK, so most of the time I use only the front brakes but there are quite a few occassions where the back brake (and back brake only) is useful. The problem with my ST2 is that no matter how much pressure I apply it seems to have little or no effect. It has been like this from new. I do go to quite a few rallies and this usually means traveling down a muddy or gravel path which can cause some concern.
The brake set up is standard i.e. original hoses so is there any upgrade people can suggest?
I think thats how they are to be honest. I was at some trafic lights the other day with Lynn on the back. Its was a slight hill and the back brake wouldnt hold us still even when we were stationary.
There's quite a lot you can do to uprate back brakes, but not much that will have a noticable effect! For more bite I'd recommend new pads, but I'm not to sure which of the current lot will give the best results. I'm sure someone else on this board will know.
I use the back brake quite a lot, mostly for dragging into corners, allowing the forks to rebound so your steering's unaffected mid-corner. Unfortunately I've currently got sintered pads on the back so it sounds like there's gravel stuck in the back brake...... nasty.
When I got my ST4S I complained at the first service that the back brake didn't work-the mechanic rode round the car park and locked the wheel to prove it did-I still think it's crap mind and that's after 22,000 miles.
