Change of air filter

Have spoken to pipercross about a new air filter.
they have this one at a reasonable price:
MPX014 is £58.16 inc VAT, pulls over the inlet trumpets.
Comment was that it will give a few extra horses.
Anyone got any experience of these filters?

Do a search mate for air filters...been covered loads.

Basically, it seems to be that the best filter PERFORMANCE wise, are those that take up the least amount of room in the airbox.

Therefore either simialr to standard filters in the airtubes (I think pipercross do these also) or some that sit over the hole between the tubes and the airbox.

Flip side of this is that they are generally not as thorough at filtering as the big undertank jobbies.

Personally I Wouldn't bother with anything that intrudes in to the airbox on a 748/916/996/998.

In my experience you lose both power and throttle response. Your fueling ends ups all wrong as well. You might be able to correct that issue with a power commander, that s another £200 plus on top of the filters plus some dyno time.

In terms of performance,anything that reduces the capacity of the airbox is bad news.Theres a number of tuners that will tell you that disturbing the airflow around the edge of the trumpet is also bad news.In terms of filtration,thats a different story.Pipercross make a pair of filters that fit as per standard but are much better material.MPX038 approx £20 the pair.

I ran an undertank filter for a couple of years on my 748. The main reason being that the stock tank/airbox seal was terrible and the filter guaranteed no dirt down my throttles.
Earlier this year I fitted MPX038 filters in the airtubes and the difference was significant. Throttle response was improved and the bike generally felt more "lively".
I've now got a later seal to fit to the airbox to seal to the tank better and i'll be happy
IMO, i'd never go back to the undertank filters. The MPX038's are cheap enough to justify buying the later seal if required and still be quids in.
The Pipercross filters are also good enough to allow removal of the mesh in front of the airtubes to allow more flow and not disintegrate like the OE items.

The subject of air filters has been covered many times on here so here`s my bit.

having run my 998s with standard filters for some time i then fitted the original JHP undertank "sausage" type filter, results were a better throttle response ans engine pick up.

I then changed to the very large K & N style undertank filters. the result was masive in terme of response & pick up but now I have the occasional spit back or stall after a high speed run????

I shall now fit a power commander and have it set up on a dyne, probably Ryno Dyno in croydon in the early part of next year.
