748: Converting to \'left hand drive\'

In order to keep my 748 insured in the south of France where she will live for the foreseable future, I need to get her registered in France. Part of the process requires that she pass a 'controle technique' (MOT).

My concerns are:

1) Can the UK headlights be re-aligned / switched over to 'left-hand-drive', or am I looking at replacing the head lights? (sourced from...)

2) Where can I source a KPH speedo fascia

3) Any other issues that anyone might be aware of?

Any help gratefully received.....

1) I think you can change the reflectors in the light. Someone will be along to clarify that shortly.

2) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/DUCATI-748-KMH...QQcmdZViewItem

3) Make sure you have the standard cans, they can be very hot on that in Europe. But that should be about it.

You don't really care about the cans. You need to contact Ducati, they're going to send you a form which you must take with the bike to any Ducati dealer in France.

The mandatory operations are to change the headlight and the tacho. Dunno if the 748 headlight can be "adapted" though...

Then the Ducati dealer will put their stamp on the form (certifying they did the job or they checked the job has be done...) and you must send that form back to Ducati France.

Yes you can adapt the headlight - there's a little piece of metal inside which screws into the beam unit. It's like a block with the corner cut off, and this is the bit that shapes the beam.

sorry... here is the form.

And I was wrong about the cans, the dealer has to mention if the cans are "homologues" (allowed for road use...). But if you're nice with them they should tick the yes box anyway...

PB
Important - it also asks that if the bike produced more than 100ch (bhp) in normal trim, that work be carried out to restrict it to 100 bhp, which is the French norme, and that proof be supplied by the workshop for this and the purchase of European lights and km speedo. You can but ask nicely.
Bon chance
