You guys rock!
Thanks KeffyB for the great photos.
Sparkin, could you email me a higher resolution copy of the image that you posted, my email is
bbrown291@comcast.net I saw the press release for the Foggy 888 that Bonhams is auctioning, in which they initially claimed it to be a works bike (which it isn't). In 1993 Foggy rode for the factory Ducati team and was supplied with two works bikes.
He also rode a privateer customer 888 Corsa for the UK importer (Moto Cinelli) at the Northwest 200 (which he won) and at non-conflicting British superbike races (Super HEAT).
The bike that they are auctioning is the Moto Cinelli bike.
All four of the 1993 Works team bikes (Fogarty's and Fallapa's) came to the USA for the 1994 AMA Superbike season. At least two of them were later dismantled for parts. Another US 888 enthusiast purchased a Ex-Fallapa/Ex-Corser bare frame from Ferracci (ZDM888S 0002179), and is now building a bike around it.
I hadn't thought about contacting Ducati for photographs, but the response from them was so lukewarm when I contacted them about trying to determine the history of the bike (Their response was "Yes Fogarty rode this bike"). But other than the one email, I could never get them to send any kind of letter of authenticity.
Congratulations Nattyboy, You are the winner.
That is Slick Bass, although with a few more pounds. He was tuning for the HMC Ducati team in the US during the 2001 AMA Superbike season. I brought my bike to the track (Sear Point) on the Thursday before the race to have him look at it. He confirmed that it was Foggy's 1993 WSB ride. He still has all of the race notes from the 1993 season, and over the phone he told me the race history of my bike.
Thanks again!
Brian
