You youngsters...when I saw this post I thought "Oh yeah, I was there" then I thought "No, hang on, I was still living at home with my Mum and Dad then...it was the first DSOTM tour, that I saw in about 1973-ish"
Must have been because I had only just started college...Blimey...so then one day I find, 33 years have got behind me, no-one told me when to run....
I do remember it well though, they must have been the first band to use a quadrophonic PA system. During the gig they didn't use the quad stuff too soon, it was bought in right at the end of "on the run" when suddenly all the sound panned to the back of the venue (Earls Court I think - could've been Wembley). At the same time a huge model plane "flew" from the back of the hall and dived towards the stage, the sound panned to follow the plane and all the spotlights picked it out too. It skimmed over the band and "blew up" backstage. Even though I could see the wire the plane was suspended on, at 18 or thereabouts in the gloomy 70's, I thought that it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen.
