I have a datatag kit which wasn't used on my previous bike and I'm getting a 748s, Anyone installed one on theirs, been looking at pics to see where the transponders can be dropped into the frame. Is there any open ends?
I installed one on my 748s and didn't find anywhere suitable to put a transponder on the frame. However, my kit came with Datadot liquid which I used liberally on inconspicuous areas of the frame/engine casing/inner wheels/headstock etc etc. I also stuck the warning stickers in prominent places (one of which was close to the point where my beast of a chain/ground anchor passes through the frame just to let anone brave enough to have a crack know that its security marked). The etching was quite simple (but take care, it's lethal stuff to remove if you fcuk it up).
Fitted both the kits on my 748 and 996. Found it wasn't a major job if you remove the parts that your putting the etching marks on and just take your time. Have a look at a few dukes in your local dealers for location ideas. I glued the transponders to the underside of the bottom yoke and on the innner spoke casting of the rear wheel. The warning sticker is on the top yoke, I know its not pretty but it has to be prominent.
BTW I go over the bike with the datadots every six months or so just to make sure it still has plenty in place.
Lee, it may sound obvious but give some thought to which bits you may change for after market items. I put the etch markings on the front fender, v piece and dual seat unit and then replaced the lot with alternatives.
