Rev counter only working upto 7K?

Got my bike back from the dealers following its major service. Took it home gently. Today, go out for a blast and notice that my rev counter seems to have compressed all its movement (ie 0-12k) to 0-7k!! What has caused this? Is it an easy fix? did the dealer forget to reconnect something? Would like your views before I make to 100 mile round trip back to the dealers.

Thanks

Check the battery connections are nice and tight.

I had similar symptom and it turned out to be vibrations in the battery tray causing the loose connections to spark and upset the electronics.

They may look ok, but give the bolt another turn just to be sure.

No - still not working correctly. Where does the rev counter pick up the revs from? ie, where is the other end of the wire connect too? I have checked the rev counter end and seems to be fine.

Enjoy your trackday @ Croft yesturday? Good track for dukes!!

track day was top bannana, cant wait to do another one-fancy donny-how about you.
i think the wire connects to the bikes cpu via a couple of connectors, according to mr haynes manual its a green and grey wire.
might not help but the diagram shows it going through two connectors-dont know where they are tho, one is probably behind the headlight.
