It's that bloke in Wales again... You've guessed it. It is hard to keep a straight face when a piece of meddlesome social engineering backfires. In North Wales, as we report today, a "Mrs A" has been caught speeding – on her way to a "speed awareness course" that she was required to attend after previously driving at 35mph in a 30mph zone. The speeding-obsessed Chief Constable of North Wales, Richard Brunston, recounts this story smugly on his weblog. He describes Mrs A as a "dangerous idiot" and warns her, with typical hyperbole, that she may "kill someone" unless she mends her ways. Readers must make up their own minds who the idiot is in this case. Meanwhile, Mrs A has the perfect excuse for her offence. How could she be expected to be aware of the speed limit when she had yet to attend her first speed awareness course? Even better. I was talking to the ex-bike cop instructor who assessed my riding at the DIP I did a while back. "What's new in the world of DIP's", I asked. "Ha, you'll like this, I've got two guys to assess on a speed awareness course next week." said the Instructor "Yeah but you do those all the time, said I. "Yeah but, these are two traffic cops!".
