998s/996r/998r engines

Anyone had the cams dialed in and the squish set on one of the above? I have been told it will make big difference??doesn't that depend on the tolerances yopu have been lucky or unlucky enough to get when your engine was built at the factory??

Any other minor tweaks that get the best from the motor?

I'm interested to make the best of what I have got already, not bolting on big cams, head porting, big bore pipes (already got open cans)

TIA

Ray

I would suspect there would be gains to be had, but as you say they will be in proportion to the production tolerance. Maybe JHP has got a few examples/dyno graphs he could quote/show you.
If IanH reads this he may be able to offer some advice as he runs a 998S in Superclub etc with winning results, I know he has bored out injector bodies but no idea of the full spec.

No idea but i'd love to know, and much does it cost.

Actually must put it on the dyno and see what it produces as standard.

i know that one of the guys that races a 998s and manages some wins, has had the heads modified, if i recall correcetly its as you said swish & dailed cams, (envolves a small amount of machine work) & i believe they use diferrant valve collets also.
certainly makes some differance , but not sure what you are expecting when you refer to a big differance.

i did enquire about having my 996r done but never got round to it, i cant recal how much it was though, someone else might help you more here

Mood: Finally gotten over the 748R getting stolen thing. Actually, no i haven't !
On a 748r if that helps
I had my bike in for a 12k service at JHP in january and i asked them to dial in the cams as well.
Cost 3 hours labour and they found only one cam was only one degree out.
So much for these stories of wildly out of tolerance build quality.
As you would expect i did not notice any great improvement afterwards because there was nothing wrong with them to start with.
