Starting problems please help me :(

Help needed

ibke won't start...

Lowsided on left a few weeks back, but bike started since then.
Washed it yesterday and when I came to start it won't

Alarm disables
Pump primes but start button produces nothing at all.

Sidestand has a bypass but was up anyway (it has been slightly worn though??)
Kill switch off
Battery fully charged and checked with a spare from the 999 and same thing
Taken all electric connectors apart and cleaned/dried
Taken solenoid apart and tried bypassing at which point engine tries to start and sparks fly.
Tried a spare starter button

NOTHING!!

So what else is it??

My current thinking is the solenoid is stuffed, gonna buy a decent multimeter tomorrow and hopefully a new solenoid to test.

What else should i try/check?

Please help I have first track day on Friday, have new tyres on, have crashed 2 out of the last 3 times I have ridden and have now swapped to race pattern shift so really wanted to ride the bike before Friday

This might help Lily here is the pin outs for the multi way connector just above the battery that connect the Main Harness to the headlight and switch gear

Been a while since I played with the wiring on my 998 its over a year since I did the Pin outs but looking at it I suspect that once you turn the ignition on 12 V is fed via a fuse onto Pin S in the Multiway connector this then goes up to the connector in the headlight that the right switch gear connects to where the Red/black wire changes to a Red/Blue wire and goes to the start button
Pressing the start button then sends the 12 Volt back to pin B in the Multiway via the headlight connector and the red wire. From here it goes into the main harness and looks as if it goes off to the Solinoid.
Which would infer that the other side of the solinoid is earthed in some way, either directly or by a interuptable method.

More in a while if I can find the info here at work

Just had a look at the wiring diagram, the fuse gets 12V as soon as the ignition is switched on and the earth for the Starter Solinoid comes by way of the sidestand

ok, i did some tracing of connections and the start button goes into a multiway on the main harness at the front, this then routes down to the battery but I can't see what it goes via??. From the battery I seemed to have a straight line to solenoid and then a straight line out to the starter??

Ok, so if the sidestand switch was a worn down but has a sidestand bypass thingy on it would it still cause a problem?

Lily have you a spare working indicator handy as you can use it as a test lamp also required will probably be another set of hands.
you can test the indicator by connecting it across the battery.

If so unplug the small connector from the back of the solinoid.
on one side of it we are looking for +12V (red wire) and on the otherside ground (red/black wire).
With the side stand up connect the indicator to the battery +ve and the other wire to the red/black wire in the small connector. If the side stand switch is OK the indicator should light up.
if it does then the sidestand switch is ok.

which means you are possibly missing the 12 volts from the start circuit.
to check for this firstly connect the indicator between the Battery -ve and the Red wire in the small connector. turn on the ignition and press the start button. if all OK the indicator will light. If it doesn't the 12v is missing. So you will have to check for it at various connectors.
leaving one wire of the indictor connected to battery -ve, seperate the Multiway connector and if your eyesight is up to it locate pin S on the main harness side and connect the other indicator wire to it. With the ignition switched on the indicator should light. if it doesnt it looks as if it is either a fuse (don't just go on the fact they look OK) or the Ignition switch.
if it does light then reconnect the connector and move on to the connector that the R/H switch gear plugs into.
unplug this connector and again one wire from indicator to battery -ve or a good earth point and the other has to go to the pin connected to the Red/Black wire (may have to peel some insulation tape away) coming up from the multiway connector. Again with the ignition switched on the indicator should light. if it does then I would suspect that the start button is faulty although it could be the wires back from the start button down to pin B in the Multi way.

I think another check you can do starting with everything plugged up and the side stand up is to disconnect the multiway connector by the battery, and with the ignition turned on connect a piece of wire from the Battery +ve to pin B of the multiway on the main harness side. if the sidestand switch is providing the earth then putting the 12v on pin B should pull ion the starter Solinoid even with the ignition switched off
