I rode an R6 on the weekend around Almeria, albeit only for a few laps. It was running road pattern shift and my desmo due bike is race pattern but I just didn't like it at all.

I can see the potential in it to go very quick but I don't think they are for me. I'd much rather have a 748 as a track bike. An RS would be the ultimate track tool I think.

Freak, it just doesn't make sense mate. Just get the 999R sorted out and it will be an absolute weapon.

To quote Mr Murray, sometimes of this parish:

If you haven't yet seen it, then I thoroughly recommend this month's
"Bike".

Specifically, for their experiment in taking a stock R6, plus another
same, and doing some very basic re-tuning of the other one to sacrifice
a bit of top end for a bit more mid-range.

An then they did a sort of blind test with staffers and readers.

Absolutely fascinating. One of the most original feature ideas I've seen
in ages, and bears out the sort of guff that us old farts witter on
about - screaming top end horsepower, and that last fractional bhp, and
that 3mph advantage, is a waste of time (off the track).

I know it says "off the track" but how many of us would honestly find the limits anyway?

I had a builder round my house laying a patio for me. He was in his late 30's, had never ridden a bike before and reckoned he was going to do Direct Access then get a ZX10.

I told him that he probably wouldn't have a very long life expectancy, but it didn't seem to register....

Thats a scary thought Jools...my old man shat himself going up the road on my 115hp 10 year old 888 last year....but at least hed had some experience on big bikes years ago..and it certainly isnt a c.1hp>1kg ratio firebreathing nutcases tool.

Ive lost 2 mates now who did a quick test and bought powerful bikes...not a good recipe at all..

I keep having a similar fear. My dad has been riding bikes for 40 odd years and still rides a bike to work most days. He has been riding big old touring bikes and has finally decided that he wants something sporty (at 65 )

Problem is he has not ridden a sports bike for about 25 years and even then they were nothign compared to todays bikes and I am terrified as I really dont think he has any comprehension of the power and performance of even the smallest current sportsbike.

Mum actually mentioned the other day that he quite liked the look of the fireblade
