I am stripping the 748 to clean up and fettle over these dreary evenings, can you please tell me, if I take off the petrol tank there are three pipes underneath, if I disconnect them does petrol leak out?
I have had two 748s', which both had quick release valves on the tank, which automatically seal when you remove the pipe. I seem to remember that the later budget model (748E?) didnt have the quick release fittings.

Good luck with the winter fettle!

my 98 BP has quick release connectors. they still leak a little bit when disconnected, so even if your bike has 'em, have a rag ready underneath to catch the drips.
Surely if it has a pump it won't leak other than residual in the pipes?
No?
Okay, I'm going....
yes, that's what i meant - not a constant leak, but a little bit of residual fuel comes out when the pipes are pulled off. not very much, but enough to make it worthwhile having a rag to hand
If it's the E tank without the quick release connectors, either drain the tank or make up some blanking pipes. It will leak and continue to do so until it's emptied itself.
The o-rings on the QR connectors should be ok. Have a look for any nicks or cuts in them. Replace if in doubt. They are pennies anyhow. Use plenty of grease on reassembly.
