Spluttering 996
Hi all, Some advise on my spluttering 996. I am finding if I don't use the bike for a couple of days, 2-3 mins into my ride the bike starts to splutter, so I pull over and it tick over for a few mins, all is well after that.

Have rinsed out fuel tank, new filter and fresh fuel.

Can a spark plug cause this effect.
Last week had a good run upto West Yorkshire all was well apart from the start.

Any suggestions.

It *might* be the HT leads have perished and are getting moisture in them when sitting for a couple of days - the heat build up then evaporates the moisture and they then start working fine.

Always worth a try as there are only two of them and should be quite cheap to replace!

Checked all the usual, no luck. Booked in for an early 12K service Ducati Manchester. Hopefully the Mathesis Diagnostics computer will pick up the fault.
Will post there finding in two weeks.

Wouldn't rely on them picking up too much, they failed to find the original spark plug in one cylinder and the monster spark plug fitted in the other cylinder on my 'R'(wonder what they actually did for their £600+cost service?),wasn't impressed when i found this out, needless to say they won't be getting any buisness of me ever again.Hopefully you might have better luck

Drive another 40 miles or so and take it to Nelly at Cornerspeed.

Wouldn't like to risk the extra 40 miles the way it's running. Getting down the B roads just incase will be bad enough. Put old plugs back in as new didn't make any difference, so will check after to see if they have replaced them. Just hope it's not the ECU, can stomach the TPS. Wondered about buying a new eprom just to check (taken power commander off)if it's this and for about £25 good money spent I think ?

If you ask him nicely he'll pick it up for you in his van.

Now that I've pre booked it in, wouldn't like to go back on my word( I know it's my money). Will see how this service goes, in future will try other service people. Will let you all know.

Well, finally got it in for it's 12k service. What a pig of a ride, good job I took back roads any way threw the keys into service and told them to ring when they have fixed it. We will see what happens and how long before they give up! and what the expense is will post results once returned
