VAT on P&P...is it legal ???

Just had a parcel arrive and VAT was charged against Post and Packing !!!

Now, I can imagine it being kinda OK for packing, as the suppliers time and materials are being use but post???

Isnt it all a fixed rate, so I'm being scammed out of an extra 17.5% admittedly on a few quid but, I must prefer the money to be in my pocket, instead of someone else's.

Cheers - Grumpy !!!

Yes it is, Private companies must charge vat, ie DHL Securicor Amtrack etc, the only people who are vat exempt are the post office, but if a business sends something through Royal Mail it is supposed to charge vat because the business is vat registered and therefore must charge.
