Kawasaki !!!!

Bit of a different one this, but do we have anyone who knows much about early ZXR750s, an import 89 model. A mate has one and it seems to be restricted - it's a bit breathless at the top end and will only do about 120. The engine is still in very good condition - 20000 miles. I seem to remember they did some restrictions using carb tops?
Any ideas.

IIRC some were restricted to 100bhp (the French ones) but, even then it should be a fair bit faster than that so, I don't think restrictors are the answer.

Later J's were also restricted again (the metallic blue and burgundy ones) and even then they would do about 143.

Oops sorry. forget the 120mph bit, that was me misunderstanding what he said. The speedo doesn't go past 180 KPH - about 120 mph, so he can't tell what speed it is actually pulling in top.

As a previous 750zxr owner i found the best source of info on the 'net for all 750's is here...

http://www.redmonkey.com/7r/

The site has been going for years and it's on a similar par to this DSC site for excellent knowledge, passion for the bikes and friendliness too. Good luck.

Steve, a mate of mine had an import and the exhaust down tubes were a smaller diameter than the UK model he had to weld down pipes from a UK exhaust to the rest of the system, he got a lot more umf out or it after that
