Looks like David's bike is a 1999 model year bike registered in 2000, given the Showas and bronze frame in his avatar. In that case, all is as it should be.

Just a few weeks ago it was on e-Bay for £7,495 but the bidding only reached £6,300. I watched the auction end without a sale several times. I contacted him, went to see the bike and did the deal outside eBay. I have looked at a few, and this is the best example I have seen. It was also conveniently just 20 mins down the road from me!
996 SPS (Ohlins rear, Showa front) W-reg 7,000 miles, FDSH 2 owners from new
I'm sure its very good, but I would be suspicious either about the year or the reason that Showa forks have been fitted.
All 2000 onward bikes had grey frame, if its bronze then its a 1999 model. All 2000 models were released with Ohlins front and rear. If its got Showa and its 2000, then they have been retro-fitted.
Sounds like mine is ok then as its 2000 W, ohlins and a grey frame!!! Ticks in all the boxes

Yep, that's right - it is a '99 model on a W Plate.
