After market or alternative ignition system

Just been playing with my class B Ducati monster, I believe the engine is around 1998 as it has the rounded toothed timing belt. It ran initially on two cylinders and then wouldn't start.
A replacement BB1105 CDI ignition unit solved the problem and it's now running sweetly again ready for Brands. I have looked at replacing the spare I used but they are quite pricey.

My question is :- is there an alternative/after market system that would be better to fit and more cost effective in the long run. Perhaps a power commander or something similar.

Has anyone done something similar which is within the rules and could you enlighten me on what I need and how hard it it to do?

Thanks in advance,
Lee
