Andy

Ask your dealer about a 'short' service. Valves checks according to my dealer are mileage dependant and not time dependant therefore do not need to be done until you reach 6,000 regardless of time. Last year this saved me about £150 on my 999s service as I recall and will do the same again this year (2nd year) as I have still only done £4,000. This is where most of the cost comes from particularly on the 'R' as someone has already pointed out.

Belts are not worth taking a chance with and as someone else said get them changed if that's what the book says even if you have done low mileage as their deterioration is time based and can be worse if the bike is not used regularly.

I hope this helps.

Andy - that\'s cheap ...

... ask Red-Leader, last full service on his 998 including belts and a compression check cost £1,000. Then a belt delaminated 50 miles later ending him up in all sorts of bother ... including 120 mile round trip to take the bike back Ahhh the joys etc.etc.etc.

Good job that the 749/999's are so much easier and cheaper to service than those old-fashioned 748/996's, isn't it?
