I've just bought a nice new anodised pressure plate. The seller said that it would fit a 748 to 998. I've just tried fitting it to my 916 and the screws seem to tighten down too far squashing the springs down! When removing the plate a toothed spacer fell out and I refitted the unit without the spacer. All seemed good but gear change is a problem, am I going to be able to fit this plate or do I get my money back?

Was the "toothed spacer" the last of the driven clutch plates?? If so, it has to be in place.
That'd cause the springs to tighten down too far and get coil bound and also allow the exposed friction plate to eat the new pressure plate away.
Pull the plate off and fit the toothed spacer, then refit. If the spacer is the driven plate then all should be fine.

Have you got the mark on the clutch plate lined up with the post with the horizontal mark? When I replaced my clutch plate I found that I could not release the clutch with the clutch lever. By slackening off the clutch springs and applying the clutch lever I found that the plate would move and then I was able to tighten up all the cluch springs. They look like then are fully compressed when tightened but that is how they function.

The plate didn't have the mark to line up the with slotted pin!

Still having problems!!!
All seemed good but the clutch was a bit stiff, on closer inspection I noticed that the springs are still compressed more than when the original plate was on. The new plate is thicker which means that when the 6 bolts are tightened the plate movement is reduced. I've put the original plate back on and all is good! Any ideas????

If the pressure plate is thicker then you may need to reduce the thickness of the clutch plate stack. This would mean changing one or two of the thicker drive plates for thinner ones to gain the correct clearance.

I thought I was going a bit nuts!

Is this normal when adding an after market plate?
Is it worth doing or do I ask for my money back as the plate doesn't fit?
And now I've notice that I'm losing clutch pressure while in traffic, I think I've done some damage to the O rings or pipes!

took my plate off and the rod which goes thru the clutch came too, couldnt see any way of removing it?? Does it just 'pull' out?

Hi,

Yes the rod does just pull thru, but a light tap with a mallet separates them! I've just spoken to someone at Pro twins and he said I may have popped the slave cylinder seal. He has suggested fitting a Ducati Performance clutch plate instead of the un-named version I have.
