Need to buy today ... can some kind person advise me on what size socket I need to get to enable me to loosen the rear axle so I can adjust the chain. On an 04 999r type swinging arm. Thanks v much
I know I'm making a big mistake here, but why do you need to loosen the rear axle to adjust the chain on a 999? I just use the tension adjusters on my '03 999S.

I know I'm in for a kickin' now ...
how can the adjusters move the rear wheel if the axle bolt is tight ?
I think you will find that you have been NOT adjusting your chain tension

Has anyone actually read the owners manual then
No mention of how to adjust the tension in there, other than:

guest1,a normal socket will fit fine.I think I got mine from Halfrauds. And Loz,please tell me you are taking the mick!!??!! How do you think those puny adjusters move the rear wheel back without undoing the spindle nut first! As for taking the bike to a dealer to get the chain adjusted,.....
