I've a 2002 748S bip and have acquired a genuine monoposto seat unit.
Anyone out there fitted one to a bip subframe?
Are there any mods I need to do to the lock etc - or indeed anything else, not keen to disassemble the existing set up only to find I can't fit the mono straight on?
but you will need a fitting kit to make sure the seat fits properly.
There's loads of previous threads on this but here's the main steps:
* Remove your Bip seat unit * Remove the rear light fittings * Replace the triangle shaped bracket at the rear with one from the kit, plus some spacers. * Refit the lights to new seat * Fit the new seat unit and align the locking bracket.
You can use all the Bip brackets to fit the Mono seat, you just need to make some spacers to bring the seat catch down to fit the subframe and a couple of longer bolts.I used a pile of penny washers to get the correct length(30mm) of the spacers, then got my mate to turn some up in alloy.
you can get the required items to space the seat catch down towards the lock from ducati, I replaced my biposto seat with a single seat unit and did so, talk to a dealer about what you need, which is basically a few spacers and an additional bracket and longer bolts. well worth the extra few qiud rather than bodge something up. if you get stuck ive probly got the part numbers somewhere.
This fella basically wanted to be able to do the conversion quick and easy by having two complete seats setup to just swap and go, not forgetting the pillion pegs of course.
I am doing the same thing myself. Some bits new and some bits from Ebay. If you want part numbers and diagrams go to the technical bit of Ducati.Com and download the spare parts catalogue.
i considered a bp seat unit for mine, but after witnessing how a 15kg ventura tail pack completely screws up the handling there is no way i'm going to do it now.
