Disc Thickness
Hi
Been trying to order some disc bobbins from Nelly and he needs the disc thickness. He says normally 4.5 or 5mm.
So I measured mine and they seem to be 4mm. There is very little disc wear and they seem to be 4mm on the braking surface and near the carrier where there is no wear at all.

Can anyone confirm what the discs thickness is normally on a '93 strada?

Cheers
Andy

Andy, check the carrier itself for the wear limit.
5mm discs usually have 4.5mm limit and the 4.5mm usually have a 4mm limit.
It's the original disc thickness that makes the difference when supplying new bobbins.

Double check first, but 4mm may be down to the limit

Hi mate
Just looked at the discs again, there is no wear limit stamped that I can see and the measurement is 4 mm even on the part of the disc next to the carrier which gets no wear.

I have looked at the workshop manual for the 888 and the disc thickness seems to be listed at 4mm also, so I'm puzzled......

I'm guessing these are fixed discs then? The bobbin is riveted, not secured with an E-clip?
I'll need to check my info at work tomorrow to make sure the replacement bobbins are a viable fix for you.

Sometimes, the informations regarding the MIN thickness are written on the circumference of the disk ...
You have to clean and brush if rusty ...

Mine is also a '93 and definately has 4mm thick disks as I've just checked (there is almost no wear on mine). They look rivetted so they are 'fixed' or possibly might just classify as 'semi-floating'.
