I ride with a couple of milles on week ends and got onto the conversation about clocks. one of them was saying if he takes hes battery off hes bike and leaves it for a few weeks that it loses its memory and puts it back to zero mileage, he told the local dealer about it and they said they do that from time to time. so was wondering if the duc would do the same cos could be a pain if you are up to date with service history.
My bike is an early 2003 749s. Very early on in it's life it had ECU and clock related problems. Occasionally it did lose all it's mileage and reset at zero.
ECU and clocks were replaced with updated versions under warranty and all is ok now.
All that said, the dealer, did say that they have a "secret" sequence of pressing buttons etc etc that could reset the clocks .... not sure if that is true or urban myth.
It is a problem some '04 models had. For the life of me I can't remember why. Unfortunately mine never did it. Could get a bit confusing when it comes to servicing though.
